Preliminary Notes
Welcome to the OCD sewing tutorial for the TMP “Class D” jumpsuits!
This tutorial is intended for use with the Tailors Gone Wild Movie-era jumpsuit sewing patterns.
Both the men’s and women’s movie-era jumpsuit patterns include the TMP “class D” jumpsuits, as well as their successors, the TWOK-era enlisted jumpsuits.
In this tutorial, we will be exclusively focusing on the TMP jumpsuits; the TWOK-era jumpsuits are covered separately in their own dedicated tutorial here on my blog.
(If you’d like to learn more about the original costumes, check out and my corresponding costume analysis.)
Although this free tutorial is a thorough guide to making all of the aforementioned jumpsuit styles, you may also be interested in my Movie-era jumpsuit walkthrough.
To further help you on your quest to make the perfect costume, I actually filmed the process of making several movie-era jumpsuits, and every step of the way I described exactly what to do. 🙂
This project requires moderate to advanced sewing/tailoring skills and supplies; if you’re a beginner or novice sewer, I recommend practicing the techniques described in this tutorial to sharpen your skills beforehand.
And if you want to level up your sewing game, check out my Sewing Wizard Training!
As always, I highly recommend doing a practice garment (or two, or three), both to help determine any relevant sizing/fitting information and/or necessary alterations, and to help familiarize yourself with the construction process.
Acknowledgments
I’d like to thank Ray Minarcik for the opportunity to examine (and pattern directly from) a screen-used TWOK-era enlisted jumpsuit suit.
I’d also like to thank Frank Skony and Michael Cowart for their input on the shoulder tabs and “perscan” devices.
And of course, I want to thank my Ko-Fi supporters for helping me be able to produce sewing/costuming resources like this tutorial and share them online.
If you enjoy this sewing tutorial, please support my costume research on Ko-Fi. 🙂
