TWOK Enlisted Jumpsuit Analysis – Conclusion

Conclusion

Robert Fletcher established a richly-detailed uniform paradigm for these movies, with an extraordinary amount of forethought and planning – and working with a significantly smaller budget than he’d had on the first film.

I find it particularly impressive that he – and director Nicholas Meyer – were able to establish such a different visual aesthetic while having to make extensive use of the existing costumes from TMP.

The TWOK-era enlisted jumpsuits may have begun their lives as TMP “Class D” jumpsuits, but after Fletcher and his team were finished modifying them, they were virtually unrecognizable.

They may have only been intended for wear by background extras in a comparatively low-budget movie, but that didn’t stop Fletcher from conjuring up a wardrobe of beautifully-detailed uniforms.

As such, these enlisted jumpsuits have taken their rightful place along the “monster maroons” and other amazing movie-era uniforms as fan-favorites.
